The most beautiful in the entire Kingdom is Princess Snow White.
―The Magic Mirror answered to Queen Chrystal that Snow White is the fairest of them all.

Princess Snow White is the main protagonist of the animated Japanese fairy tale series, The Legend of Snow White. She is the daughter of King Conrad and Queen Rosebud, and the stepdaughter of Queen Chrystal. She is the lovely young princess of Green Valley, whose beauty is defined by her inherent kindness and purity.

After the death of her mother, her father remarried believing that she needed a loving mother's care. After Snow White's father leaving the kingdom for a war, she was treated for being miserable and abusive by her stepmother Queen Chrystal. Despite the cruelty of her wicked stepmother, Snow White remained sweet, kind-hearted and beautifully.

Shortly after finding love in a handsome young Prince named Prince Richard, Snow White learns that her jealous stepmother is determined to kill her. Snow White forcibly runs away from her home to escape the Queen's wrath, but she finds shelter in the cottage. Now a refugee, Snow White dreams about reuniting with her Prince and living happily ever after.

Background[]

Snow White was born in her Kingdom as a princess, for she was the daughter of King Conrad and Queen Rosebud. Her skin as milk and white as snow, her lips were as red as the rose, and her hair was as black as ebony wood. The Royal Family resided in a beautiful castle, just located in a valley with green deep. Snow White's mother, Queen Rosebud, fell ill and tragically died shortly after she was only four years old. After some time, as a result of believing his daughter needed the care of a loving mother figure in her life as she was still a child, and the Kingdom must have a Queen, Snow White's father, King Conrad, remarried a vain and cold-hearted Queen named Chrystal.

On Snow White's twelfth birthday, the King, Snow White's beloved father, leaves for war breaks out in the Kingdom, and leaving his daughter all along with her wicked stepmother. As a young lady, Snow White's vain and wicked stepmother Queen Chrystal treated her, scolded her so poorly like a servant in her own home. Each day, the Queen asked her Magic Mirror, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" When the Mirror answered, "You are the fairest woman in the land, my Queen," Snow White and the other women were safe from the evil Queen's cruel jealousy. After Snow White's mother's personal maid, Molly, were banished by Queen Chrystal, she was left alone with her heartless stepmother. The people of the Kingdom felt sorry for their princess when the evil Queen treated her poorly, but they could not rebel due to Queen Chrystal's power.

Personality[]

Snow White in garden

Snow White is the sweetest and most gentle princess in her kingdom. She is naive, resilient, sentimental, helpful and very kind, but can also be quite assertive and has the sternness of a mother; for she was raised by her parents. She is also shown to be quite playful, as she teased Jolly. Snow White can also be heart-brokened, as her father, King Conrad, told her that her mother, Queen Rosebud is dead, and her father had to leave the Kingdom for war breaks out to the Kingdom, leaving her with her wicked stepmother, who treated her miserable.

Snow White is a dreamer and a romantic girl, but she is willing to work extra hard if there needs to be in order to earn her keep. She enjoys singing, dancing, cooking (which is thanks to the dwarfs teaching her how to do this), daydreaming, and a love of animals. However, her kindness and selflessness can often blind her judgment, and she is quick to break rules if it means to help someone in trouble (as seen when she helped, Jolly wants to help her too). Snow White is always quick to rebel against anything that will go against her high moral values, such as when she let the disguised Queen enter the cottage, thinking her as a sickly, old peddler, despite the warnings from the dwarfs. Snow White is shown to be clever as she recognizes that her stepmother is in disguise as an old peddler woman and tricked her into eating the poisoned apple.

Possibly because of her mother has died when she was young, Snow White is very empathetic towards the dwarfs when they need a someone to do chores for all of them. Snow White is well-known as an optimist; even when others were rude to her, or when things looked grim, she always had a positive outlook on life.

Snow White is the most pure-hearted princess; she is never mean-spirited, unfriendly, unsympathetic, callous, or headstrong, and, because of her resilience and hopeful nature, she shows a great inner strength against adversity. This is an example of the fact that one does not have to be physically tough to be strong.

Snow White is coined as the Fairest of Them All; this is because of her purity showing much more beauty than her stepmother Queen Chrystal's vanity and jealousy. She can also be playful, and somewhat sassy, as she takes advantage of Jack's sour disposition and initial dislike for her by teasing him, as opposed to acting out of shock, much to Jack's annoyance. She dislikes Jack's initial attitude towards her. Snow White is always helpful and brave, but she is also annoyed by Jolly's stubbornness.

Though generally childlike and gentle, Snow White can also be assertive, with the authoritative nature of a mother. She had firm attitude and also cleanest and sweetest. Having been mistreated by Queen Chrystal in her own home, Snow White is innocent and accepting. Possibly the little princess's greatest flaw is also her greatest strength.

Due to Snow White's strong sense of kindness and goodwill upon others, the young princess can at times be gullible and easily manipulated to rebel against the orders of others, such as when she invited an old harmless and sickly peddler woman into the cottage for health care, disobeying the Dwarfs' orders to stay away from strangers. This would result in her downfall. However, as mentioned above, Snow White's loving heart is ultimately able to prevail, as her mutual love for Prince Richard saves her life. This exemplifies both the dangers and advantages of having a pure heart and making her a more human character.

Snow White is a very deeply compassionate and pure-hearted girl. She holds respect for all life and is kind to almost everyone she meets. However, when she saw what her evil stepmother, Queen Chrystal, had done, she grew more and more brave and eventually resolved to stop Chrystal, proving herself a courageous and selfless woman. Snow White remains hopeful of a better tomorrow and uses her experiences to make her a stronger person. When Snow White is happily to live with Prince Richard, she was very joyfully and always being kind to her friends.

Trivia[]

  • Snow White is only shown as a royalty as a princess in the series.
  • Snow White is the youngest character, being 12 years old.
  • Snow White was originally going to have blonde hair, but her hair was changed to black to make her more relatable.
  • Interestingly, in the story, she might have never realised that the old woman was her stepmother in disguise, nor that she ever had any malicious intentions. After biting the apple and falling into the sleeping curse, the next thing she would've known was waking up after being kissed by the Prince, so she probably assumed that it was indeed a wishing apple and that her wish had come true. However, during her appearance on The Legend of Snow White, Snow White did learn that the peddler woman who visited her was in fact her evil stepmother in disguise and that the apple was poisoned.
  • All the stories, Snow White is one of the princesses who are being raised by a villain, after Cinderella and Rapunzel.
  • Unlike her Disney's counterpart, Snow White interacted with her stepmother Queen Chrystal in the show, and she is not being orphaned in the Disney film.
