Prince/King Charles is one of the main characters of The Story of Cinderella. He is the son of the Queen and the King of Emerald Kingdom.

Background[]

Charles in the son of the King and Queen of Emerald Kingdom. When first introduced in the series, Charles came off as seemingly being carefree of his responsibilities as prince and only cared about his own amusement. After meeting Cinderella, he began maturing and understanding his role as the heir to the throne.

Physical appearance[]

Charles is a handsome young man with short brown hair and light blue eyes.

Personality[]

Charles is adventurous and at times carefree. He enjoys fencing and is quite skilled in the sport. Charles is also very loyal to his family and his friends as he is shown doing everything he can to keep them and his kingdom safe.

Role in the series[]

Charles is the only son and child of the ruling monarch. He is the prince and heir to the throne of Emerald Kingdom. Because of this, many of the kingdoms available young ladies often attempt what they can to win his affection in order to become his wife and therefore the next princess. At first, Charles seems uncaring about his role as prince but would soon accept and embrace his position after meeting Cinderella and learning many things from her. He would become more responsible and mature throughout the series but would still cling to his adventurous side.

The Prince and Housework-Charles would see first hand the chores and treatment that Cinderella undergoes on a daily basis when the Duchess and her daughters force him to do the cooking and cleaning when Cinderella falls ill. Through this, he realizes all the responsibilites required of his position as prince and decides to take things more seriously. 

Disturbing Painter-Zarel talks Charles into having his portrait done by a once famous painter named Zore. As Zore paints, Charles begins to grow weaker and falls into a trance. He is saved when Cinderella requests Zore to finish a portrait he was painting of her. With the distraction, Patch takes Charles' portrait and washes it away in the river, thus releasing Charles from the trance. Now free, Charles is able to stop Zore from finishing Cinderella's portrait and Paulette uses her magic to cause rain storm to ruin the painting; freeing Cinderella.

Let's get rid of those bandits-Duchess Danton spreads false rumors of Catherine and Jeanne being possible candidates for royal fiance to Prince Charles. Her scheme is believed by the townspeople but angers Zarel when he hears how Danton claims the family has a good relationship with him. Zarel sends bandits to warn the duchess for her arrogance and they tell her to leave town but she refuses and instead makes Cinderella and Piere guard the house at night. Now taking on guard duty, Cinderella asks Charles to teach her how to use a sword so she will be prepared if the bandits arrive. Charles instructs Cinderella of basic techniques and later offers to help guard Cinderella's home. On the second night, the bandits return and Charles is able to help drive them off.

Traveling towards happiness-Charles helps Cinderella arrange for Isabel and Flora to marry when Duchess Danton tricks Cinderella into thinking that her father arranged for her to marry Flora. Working together, Cinderella and Charles turn things around and make it so Isabel and Flora become engaged.

Cinderella is in danger-Charles and Cinderella discover Zarel and his men have been stealing weapons from the royal armory and are hiding them in an abandoned house. When caught, Cinderella and Charles are tossed down a well and nearly drown until Patch is able to drain the well to save them.

Eliminate the Prince-Zarel carries out his plan to steal the crown for himself. He is able to successfully take over Emerald Castle and remove the king and queen from their positions. Charles is believed to have been killed in an explosion but was able to survive and escaped when Alex distracts most of the henchmen chasing after them. Charles is able to make his way to Cinderella's home where Duchess Danton is holding a costume party. When Cinderella's friend Marcel dresses as Charles for the party, he is mistakenly believed to be the real Charles by Zarel's men and is taken to Emerald Castle. Charles and Cinderella make their way to the castle to save him and it is there that Charles finally reveals to everyone and Cinderella that he is the true prince. With the help of guards still loyal to the royal family, Charles is able to defeat Zarel, save his parents, and restore order. When the battle is over, Charles attempts to speak to Cinderella but she flees before he can.

Invitation to the ball-the king and queen are impressed with how Charles was able to handle Zarel's attempt to take over the kingdom and Charles decides that he is ready to become king. The king and queen decide to hold a ball in hopes of him finding a lady that he wants to take as his bride. During the ball, Charles is uninterested in most of the ladies trying to gain his attention but soon spots Cinderella among the crowd though he does not recognize her in her new attire. He spends the remainder of the night with her, feeling drawn to her but is unsure why. When Cinderella leaves in a haste, Charles finds her glass slipper that fell during her run from the castle.

The Shoe of Happiness-Charles is shown to be quiet and deep in thought about the girl he danced with at the ball.

A Happy Marriage-Charles and Cinderella are reunited when Cinderella is revealed to be the girl who fits the glass slipper. The two become engaged and preparations for the royal wedding soon take place. On the day of the wedding, Zarel reappears and Charles is believed to have been killed by poison. When Zarel takes Cinderella hostage and demands the throne in exchange for her safety, Charles reveals that he became aware of Zarel's attempts and simply pretended to have fallen victim to the poison. Charles defeats Zarel once and for all and he and Cinderella are soon wed. After the wedding, Charles and Cinderella are crowned the new king and queen of Emerald Kingdom.
