Isabel is one of the supporting characters of The Story of Cinderella. She is the daughter of Duke Zaral and the ex-fiancé of Prince Charles. She is the wife of Flora Melville.

Background[]

Isabel is the daughter of Duke Zaral of Emerald Kingdom. Because of her father's ranking, Isabel lives a comfortable and lavish life and is able to get close to the royal family on numerous occasions; of which she would try to gain Prince Charles' admiration in hopes of becoming his wife.

Isabel is revealed to have deep feelings for her childhood friend Flora Melville and the two share a dream of sailing across the world. With the help of Charles and Cinderella, the two become engaged and soon marry. They leave Emerald Kingdom to live their dream of sailing and seeing the world.

Physical appearance[]

Isabel is a beautiful young woman with long, wavy brown hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. She is normally seen wearing a pink dress with white ruffles and a white hat decorated with feathers.

Personality[]

In early episodes, Isabel is depicted as a spoiled young woman who heavily relies on her father's position to get what she wants. Like many other women in the kingdom, Isabel desired to become Prince Charles' wife. After meeting Cinderella, Isabel would later change for the better and would come to see Cinderella as one of her dearest friends.

Isabel would later become a kind and understanding person. She no longer wishes to marry Prince Charles and instead wishes to marry someone she loves.

Role in the series[]

Isabel appears in the episode The Magic of a Smile when she is introduced to Prince Charles by her father Zarel and is tasked with the spending a day at the circus with him. At the end of the episode, Isabel is sitting next to Charles as they watch the circus.

A Dream Meeting-Isabel makes her first appearance of the series when she is introduced to Prince Charles when he is preparing to go hunting. Like her father, Isabel hopes that Charles will fall in love with her and ask her to marry him.

Sad Violinist-Isabel is having a party for her seventeenth birthday and her father adds to her fantasy that Prince Charles will attend because they will one day marry. However, Charles does not announce an engagement to Isabel at the party and Isabel and Zarel are enraged by this.

In the episode Please to meet you, Prince, Charles is seen walking with Isabel and learns from her that Zarel does not usually dine at home with her; leaving Isabel alone most of the time. Zarel uses this moment to later convince the king and queen that Charles has proposed to Isabel and will announce the engagement at a ball being held at the castle. But thanks to Cinderella's intervention, the ball is cancelled and Charles is not forced to marry Isabel.

In The way of Love...Isabel runs away, Isabel is repeatedly avoided by Charles not wanting to spend time with her and decides to take matters into her own hands. Isabel believes that running away will cause Prince Charles to finally pay attention to her and bring her home. However, Isabel soon finds she is unaware of how life is outside the noble and sheltered world she grew up in and finds herself in danger when kidnappers catch her and Cinderella. At boasting how she is Prince Charles' fiance and the future princess, Isabel causes the kidnappers to plan to get a large ransom for her safe return. She and Cinderella are forced to cook and clean for the kidnapper and his son but Isabel finds herself at a loss at not knowing how to do such things. During a private moment, Isabel reveals to Cinderella that she is not actually engaged to Charles and begins to accept that he does not love her but is encouraged by Cinderella to continue to try to earn his love. When Charles eventually appears to save them, Isabel is disappointed at seeing it was not the prince who to came to save her like she hoped.

In Prince Charles' secret, Isabel receives love letters from noble bachelors and announces she no longer wishes to marry to the prince. Zarel continues to pressure her into marrying Prince Charles but she makes it clear that she will not marry him. 

In Traveling towards Happiness, Isabel has become much kinder and understanding. She is under the impression of introducing her childhood friend, Flora Melville, to Cinderella. During the episode, Cinderella learns that Isabel wishes to marry someone she loves and sees that Isabel seems happiest when around Flora. Thanks to Charles and Cinderella turning around Duchess Danton's scheme to marry off Cinderella to Flora, Isabel and Flora find themselves engaged. They admit they are in love with one another and are soon married. They leave Emerald Kingdom together to live out their dream of sailing across the world. In a letter she sends to Cinderella, Isabel describes how happy she and Flora are together and regards Cinderella as her dear friend.
